About Rainbow Refugee

Active since 2001, Rainbow Refugee Committee engages in outreach, advocacy and public education on QLGBT/HIV+ refugee issues. Here are some highlights of our work:

We have provided training workshops for organizations, including the Immigration and Refugee Board, Red Cross First Contact-BC, and MOSAIC-BC.

We use popular education and popular theatre to develop interactive presentations. We have presented at the Cross Cultural Mental Health Symposium held at Simon Fraser University in 2004 and 2006 and Positive Gathering 2008.

Our members have been invited speakers at Vancouver events like National Coming Out Day, International Day Against Homophobia, and World Refugee Day.

In 2003 the BC Human Rights Commission awarded Rainbow Refugee Committee and its sister organization LEGIT the Renata Shearer award for outstanding contribution to human rights.
